Andre McCarter, an outstanding American basketball player, was born on August 25, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. McCarter's basketball journey began at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, from where he graduated and went on to play for UCLA from 1973 to 1976.

McCarter had an enviable college career playing under the legendary coach John Wooden at UCLA. His stint at UCLA saw him become an all-American player and a three-time NCAA champion. After college, he was selected by the Kansas City Kings in the 1976 NBA draft as the 6th round, 89th overall pick, igniting his professional career.

McCarter's professional career spans from 1976 to 1983 during which he played as a point guard for multiple teams. He started with the Kansas City Kings from 1976 to 1977 and went on to play for the Rochester Zeniths, Maine Lumberjacks, Utica Olympics, Atlantic City Hi-Rollers, and Washington Bullets. His last stint was with Pantterit from 1982 to 1983.

Throughout his dazzling career, Andre McCarter had numerous highlights and won several awards. In 1979, he was honored as the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) Most Valuable Player and was also named the CBA Newcomer of the Year. Additionally, he led the CBA in assists three times in 1979, 1980, and 1982. Recognizing his remarkable college career, he was declared the NCAA champion in 1975 and was named to the first-team Parade All-American in 1971.
