About Kenneth Arden Yaussy, 52, of Newton, North Carolina died Monday, August 3, 2009 after an extended illness.
Born January 31, 1957, in Morristown, New Jersey. He was the son of the Rev. Dr. Richard Arden Yaussy and Erma Jean Yoder Yaussy of Newton.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton, he was a church Elder, served as a member of Session and on a number of church committees and ministries including many years on the church Missions Committee and as chair of the Missions and the Christian Education Committees. He was a Sunday School teacher, served on a Pastor Nominating Committee, led foreign mission trips to Mexico, Honduras and St. Martin, taught Logos, had been a youth fellowship leader and led a Wednesday evening dinner and devotion group for Senior High students.
Dr. Yaussy attended Ontario Local Schools in Mansfield, Ohio and then went to Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio from which he graduated summa cum laude in 1979 with a degree in Biology. He received his medical doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1982. Dr. Yaussy performed medical mission work in Liberia, Africa prior to completing his internship and residency in Family Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 1985. Dr. Yaussy was Board Certified in Family Practice and began practice with Dr. Alan Forshey in Newton in 1985. He continued caring for patients at Newton Family Physicians, P.A. and maintained specialty certification in Family Medicine until 2008.
He twice served as Chair of the Department of Family Practice at Catawba Valley Medical Center, was on the medical staffs at Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical Center, served a number of years as Pediatric Clinic physician for Catawba County Health Department, was a member of the Catawba County Medical Society, volunteered as team physician for area high school football teams and most recently was a team physician at Newton-Conover High School.
He was a founding trustee of the Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry Endowment Fund, had served as board member and officer for the ECCCM Board of Directors, and as Board Chair of Catawba County Head Start. At the time of Dr. Yaussy's death he continued to serve as a trustee for the Endowment Fund at ECCCM and was an avid supporter of many local charities and missions.
Dr. Yaussy was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Joel Yaussy.
Dr. Yaussy's wife of almost 25 years, Karyn Lee Morrison Yaussy; and his two daughters, Elise Arden Yaussy and Samantha Lee Yaussy of Newton survive him; in addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and wife, David and LaDonna Yaussy of Charleston, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Sherri Yaussy of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; nephews, Brandon Yaussy, Thomas Yaussy, Cameron Yaussy, Evan Yaussy, and Tyler Yaussy; father and mother-in-law, David and Carole Morrison of Cary, North Carolina; and brother-in-law and wife, Scott and Kay Morrison of Bridgewater, Virginia; he is also survived by his dear friends, Thomas and Katherine Weaver of Snyder, New York; godchildren, Megan and Benjamin Weaver; and dear friends, Jody and Sharon Welker of Cary, North Carolina; as well as his partners, Drs. Alan Forshey, David Peltzer, Alan Story, Bartholomew Lopina, and Shannon Sherfey; and the staff at Newton Family Physicians; he was supported throughout his illness by his Ken's Cranium Crew buddies and close friends, Jimmy and Carole Roddy, Randy and Robin Miller, Doug and Mimi Michael, many colleagues, friends and patients; he is also survived by Rory, the dog; and Khan, the killer cat.
