About	ONTARIO: Donald L. Santmyer, 60, died with his family beside him on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his Ontario home following a battle with cancer. Don was born May 22, 1951 in Millersburg and was the son of LeRoy and Kathleen (Cramer) Santmyer. He was a 1969 graduate of Ontario High School and a decorated veteran of Viet Nam serving with the US Air Force. Don was an outdoorsman, a land conservationist, and an avid hunter enjoying trips to Newfoundland, Montana, and Colorado. Growing up he attained the Eagle Scout designation from the Boy Scouts of America. Don was a member of the Elks and the Eagles, both of Galion. He was a retired electrician from General Motors with over 38 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Sally (Bowen) Santmyer, whom he married June 11, 1977; his son Erik (Lauren) Santmyer of Sparta; 2 granddaughters: Dylan Stryker and Elliot Santmyer; his parents: LeRoy and Kathleen Santmyer of Ontario; 2 brothers: Robert (Karen) Santmyer of Saginaw, MN and Steven (Lori) Santmyer of Ontario; and his sister-in-law: Cathy Bowen of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Santmyer; his grandparents: Custer and Mary Cramer and Orville and Iva Santmyer; and his father and mother-in-law: Charles and Sara Bowen.
