***Guys, this message was broken up into portions since I could not post a message with 5,000 characters. Sorry! What is this, the 1980's? ***

Greeting and salutations fellow classmates of 1988. Class President Adam Sanchez here with an important message about our upcoming 30th class reunion (30th?!?!?!?). First of all, I hope you are well and that all mullets and poofy hair have been happily reduced to acceptable 21st century levels. I, myself, am still looking for the right hairstyle, shampoo and mousse, but . . . I digress.

So . . . CLASS REUNION. It’s time! Can you believe it?

After reviewing many possible prospects, it has been decided via the Survey Monkey vote put out a few months ago by April Mullins-Smith that The 1988 Northwest High School 30th Class Reunion will take place on the weekend of October 5th and 6th 2018 with the following schedule:

On Friday, October 5th at 7:00p.m., Northwest High will be hosting its Homecoming game and while everyone is invited to attend the football game, the plan is for our reunion gathering to take place outside the stadium as a tailgating event. For those of you who did not attend the last reunion five years ago—i.e. me—I heard it was a big hit, so it was suggested that this tradition continue. However, if you would like to attend the game, have at it—and GO TEXANS! (By the way, who’s getting me my mum?)
If you plan to attend the tailgating event, please note that there will be brisket and chicken provided and prepared by our very own Angela Doles. THANK YOU, ANGELA! Anything else is BYOW (Bring Your Own Whatever: side dishes, desserts, soft drinks, alcohol, etc.) Oh, and don’t forget about brining your own chair. I imagine that if some of us get there early enough, we can “reserve” an area with our cars so we have our own “unofficial” space.
As of right now, there is no post-game event, which means if celebrations want to continue elsewhere with someone else planning and getting the word out for that, go for it! Apparently Roanoke is now a hub of entertainment (Who would have thunk it?)

On Saturday the 6th, we have a place reserved at Chill Sports Bar & Grill in Grapevine (814 S. Main St. Grapevine, TX 76051) from 6-10p.m. While the sports bar stays open till 2a.m., our specific area is designated to us until 10p.m. before it opens to the general public. The establishment has its own DJ, which starts playing music around 10:15p.m. Whether or not they’ll be playing modern music or one-hit wonders of the 80’s is anyone’s guess, but I did ask for the latter with a sprinkle of the contemporary. I have not heard back on that yet.
Food and drinks can be purchased by the facility’s own kitchen and bar at your own cost. Because of this, there are no reservation fees (Woo-Hoo!!)

Someone mentioned if there might be a Saturday early-afternoon/afternoon event before the Chill celebration. Apparently, five years ago, a gathering occurred at Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano in Grapevine before the evening event. I don’t see any reason why this could not occur again. And if not Esparza’s, then perhaps some other place. (I know some of you golfers might want to spend a few hours practicing that dreaded shank shot. Since I have no idea what that is, I say, ‘have fun! I will be spending my time with the non-golfers instead’ ☺).

There are no plans made for Sunday the 7th since those who are coming from out of town will most likely be heading back home, but, hey, who am I to deny fun?!?

As of today, there has been no official head count, but I’d like to change that. I, for one (who will be attending), would LOVE to see as many classmates there having a grand old time, catching up on each other’s lives and recalling the days of our youth at our beloved prison-like, cloistered, rural, closed-off campus. I am confident that your name on the list of attendees can and will engage others to attend as well (The more, the merrier!). That said, all classmates and their significant others are invited to attend. And hey, why not include some of the other classes? Class of 1987 and Class of 1989 and any others, you, too, are welcome to this event.

While we understand that not everyone will be happy about the decisions made to this reunion, please know that many efforts were made in trying to accommodate any and all conflicts that came up, including location, time, cost, etc. I’m hoping that we can get past any personal discord of the choices presented and embrace a fun and successful outcome instead.

Please, please, please let us know that you are able to make it—in other words, please R.S.V.P. Both April and I are collecting this information—she through Facebook and I through any other social media (like that old 80’s thing called a telephone—I am not a Facebook member) or the NHS website www.AlumniClass.com,Inc. You can easily reach one or both of us (me at 303.358.7789 or at homers303@msn.com or April at matnapr97@att.net or through the Facebook messenger. As soon as we start building up the list of attendees, we will be posting them so that other fellow classmates can see who’s coming.

Also, if you know of anyone who might not be getting this information, PLEASE let us know and we will try do some research to see about connecting with them.

Well, that’s about it. If I think of anything I forgot to mention, or if you have questions, comments or any concerns, please feel free to communicate with us as soon as possible because like the sands in the hour glass (gosh, that sounds familiar), time escapes us quickly.

See you in October! (I’m so excited).

My best to you all,
Adam Sanchez
