What is Leah Naomi Green known for?

Leah Naomi Green, born June 14, 1983, in North Carolina, is an esteemed American poet. She spent her younger years growing up in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is notably an alumnus of Northwest Guilford High School. Green continued her education at Earlham College graduating in 2005 with a BA in Environmental Studies, and in 2009, she acquired an MFA in Poetry Writing from the University of California, Irvine.

In her flourishing career, Green has contributed significantly to the world of literature through her remarkable works. She penned “The Ones We Have”, a chapbook published by Flying Trout Press in 2012, which also won the 2012 Flying Trout Chapbook prize. Her groundbreaking poetry collection, "The More Extravagant Feast", was published by Graywolf Press in 2020.

The More Extravagant Feast particularly stood out, winning the 2019 Walt Whitman award poetry prize. This prestigious award is given annually by the Academy of American Poets to an American poet who has not yet published a book. The 2019 selection was made by poet, Li-Young Lee.
