Class of 1965

Just wanted to give a shout out to all my classmates from NWC. I finally took the plunge and retired from the Department of Corrections, Halawa Correctional Facility as the Residency Section Administrator on June 1, 2020. I am experiencing leisure life and adjusting to not having to wake up at the crack of dawn. With COVID, I am staying close to home these days; however, the beach is calling me and I am dying to get into the ocean!!! Living in a beautiful place like, Oahu, Hawaii, I feel blessed every day for the beauty of my surroundings! I miss my friends in Oklahoma, and try to get back there once a year for the OSU-OU game. My ex-beau, Art Fleak, an OSU guard/tackle for the football team, passed away. He was a gentle giant! My heart felt condolences to his loved ones. I went to the OSU-OU game last year and it was freezing! I probably will not make this year?s game since it will be played in Norman. I just want to say to all of you, continue to live life, love your family and make the best of each and every day. My dad, Colonel Frank Steer loved to substitute teach math at NWC and of course, math was my worst subject. My mom, Tootsie, used to float in the front door of the NWC lobby looking for me and she was always decked out in her beautiful, holokus (a dress with a long train) because she was always attending some kind of gala for the Mayor. She was extraordinarily beautiful and a great mom. I have lost both of my parents; however, both of my sisters, Bobbi and Twylla-Dawn are still alive and well. Twylla is retired and works as an educational consultant. Bobbi continues to grow her home based house cleaning business. I am happily single, have survived two divorces and I am all the better for it because now I am truly an independent woman!! Having been raised by a military officer father, I always conceded to the orders of the day. The good news is: my dad was such a sweetheart!!! What I will end with is the memory of the sleep over I had at my house I believe it was on the eve of our graduation, and about 15 girls including my best friend, Chris Reynolds spent the night on our living room floor. The next morning, my dad was up and cooking breakfast for all the girls! Talk about fond memories. I hope I get back to Oklahoma next year for the OSU football game. I miss my NWC classmates. Bless all of you....Dovie
