James “Jay” Henry Stith, age 78 of Irvington, KY went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

He was born on August 7, 1945 in Rineyville, KY son of the late Mary Jane Hamilton Stith and Henry Herman Stith. Along with his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth “Libbie” (Wayne) Walters and brother, Francis Herman “Hermie” (Sharon) Stith.

Jay attended Rineyville High School until his senior year when they consolidated the high schools and he graduated from North Hardin High School. He was an amazing basketball player and loved to play ball, he even received a scholarship to Murray State University for his ball skills. Jay was a member of Holy Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Irvington, and the Knights of Columbus in Vine Grove; A lifelong farmer, Jay was a member of the American Angus Association and bred registered Angus cattle; worked with the FFA where he received several awards; Jay also sold Moorman's feed to most of the farmers in Meade County; A diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox, he had listened to the games on the radio with his dad since he was young; a dedicated UK fan who “Bled Blue” right to the end; and a youth travel softball coach for his daughter's team taking them to not just state but also national tournaments.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Lewis Stith; children, Michelle (Daniel Gschwend) Stith of Windham, N.H., and Benjamin “B.J.” (Julie) Stith of Irvington; grandchildren, Kyle Gschwend, Kaelin Gschwend, Jalie McQueen, and Jacob Stith; and his “Rineyville Lunch Guys”.

Visitation will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 3-8:00 P.M. EST with a Prayer Service held at 7:00 P.M. EST. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 after 9:00 A.M. EST

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Guardian Angel Church, (301 High Street, Irvington, KY 40146) Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. EST. Rev. Fr. Michael Charles Pastor of Holy Guardian Angel officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Moreno Cemetery.

Events We had a beautiful funeral Mass for him. Me and our children are still grieving, but we have such loving memories. Each of our grandsons read their personal eulogy.
