About Helen Hardy Jost
Obituary

Helen, (nee Hardy), 77, of Mahwah, formerly of Paramus, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022. Before retiring, Helen worked for Circumnavigators Club, New York, NY as an Executive Director.
Beloved wife of the late Paul Jost (1987) and of the late Joe Mulligan (2016). Devoted mother of Edward and his wife Tricia Jost and Tracy and her husband Frank Sancilio. Treasured step-mom to Donna and her husband John Tecchio and Michael and his wife Jen Mulligan. Cherished grandmother of Michael, Luca, Emma, Paul, Wil, Christian, Ava, & Alex. Dear sister of Martha and her husband Bob Mantei and Bruce and his wife Carol Hardy. Helen will also be missed by her constant canine companion, Holly.
Helen was born in Massachusetts, a descendant of ol Puritan English and fun-loving, singing Lutheran German blood. Her beloved parents were Lawrence and Alice Tietjen Hardy. She was one of five children. Cherished late brothers, Frank and David; close-knit with surviving brother Bruce and sister Martha.
She was raised in New Milford and was a member of the first graduating class of New Milford High School. Helen established life-long childhood friendships from those New Milford days. By her early 20s, she met, fell in love with, and married River Edge’s Paul Jost. She was blessed with two children, Eddie and Tracy, lived in Bergenfield then to Paramus. Wherever she lived and loved, Helen developed lasting friendships along the way.

A while after the passing of Paul, Mom reacquainted with high school friend, Joe Mulligan, at her high school reunion. They married and brought two wonderful families together. Joe’s children, Donna and Michael, made the family bigger and better. Helen loved to travel and circumnavigated the globe with her friends from the Circumnavigators Club. She was a devoted member of Church of the Savior, loved volunteering and donating for worthy causes, loved family vacations at the beach, cherished the holidays, hosted endless parties including the annual Hardy Party and Thanxmas parties. She adored her nieces and nephews and, in so many ways was a second mother and grandmother. A true matriarch of the family.
Upon losing Joe, Mom relocated to Mahwah to be near her children and grandchildren.
Establishing yet again wonderful friendships with her Ridge Gardens neighbors she soon considered family. Mom was adored everywhere she went and touched so many people’s lives. During her last years, her most loyal companion was her steadfast pup, Holly. She gave mom such joy.

All in all, Helen had a wonderful life. The challenges of life never hardened her heart; her faith made her heart even bigger for everyone's sake. Helen's greatest strength was not so much in her words but by the example she set every day. She came to accept God's truth which led to her unshakable faith. This was the reason for all of the beautiful things that we loved about Helen. By her example, she loved us that much to give us the most precious gift of all for ourselves and our families - faith.

Thank you all for your special part in Helen's life. We are all better people because of Helen…the world is better because of Helen.

“When Jesus appeared at my door, I was expecting him.
I rose to hug him and went home, as was always His design.
You do the same when I meet you with open arms.
Life is a blink - eternity, all of us together, is forever. I love you all and await you.”

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”
- Revelation 21:4

Helen Hardy lived around the corner from me on Lacey Drive. I think she had one sister and three older brothers. I remember her father and his black car, always kept polished to a high sheen. Funny the things we remember.
