Born on February 2, 1959, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Clarence Kea emerged to become a notable figure in the world of basketball. Having attended New Hanover High School, Kea crafted his early basketball prowess playing in the school team before progressing to college basketball at Lamar University with the Lamar Cardinals from 1976 to 1980.

His talent was immediately evident as he was selected with the 169th pick in the 8th round of the 1980 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Over the 1980-81 season with the Mavericks, he played 16 games, averaging an impressive 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. However, during the 1981-82 season, his averages slightly dipped to 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game over 35 games.

After his stint with the NBA, Kea's career didn't lose momentum as he continued to play professionally overseas. He was involved with teams in Italy (Banco di Roma), Israel (Hapoel Holon), and France (Limoges).
