Class of 1952

New Castle High School Pa, in 1952 during the Class Graduation my Father palyed a Solo with His Trumpet, accompanyed by a Piano Player, the Song was "Carnavel of Venice".

After my Father Vincent A. Scungio left New Castle HS he went into the Air Force, Played in the band for a few years, then he transfered from the band to Officers Training School & graduated at the Top of his class. From here he became deeply invloved into Electronic's, He started Flying in the B-52 as their Electronic Warfare Officer. & I will tell you that his job was the most important on this Aircraft. Why, well you see the Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) is the most important because he keeps the whole Crew Safe from Surface to Air Missiles. After flying with the B-52's for a few years the Air Force Needed EWO's for the new Top Secret Mission of the "Wild Weasel's". This Mission was to fly into the Stirke area before the Stirke Flight that was ordered by the "Joint Chief's of Staff", also called a "JCS Target, and a Frag Order".

The Wild Weasel Crews would fly into the Target Area ahead of the Bombers to play a Deadly game of Chicken with the SA-2 Surface to Air Missile Installations, they would make the SAM Site Fire these Missiles at them, dive for the ground so the Missiles couldn't track on theri Aircraft, after evading the Missiles they would then attack the Missils Sites with AGM-45 Shrike Missiles, 2.75 Rockets, Iron Bombs of different sizes & their 20mm Gatlin Gun in the nose of their Aircraft. This was their Job, to Protect the Strike Flight of Bombers that were Ordered to Attack any Given Target in North Viet Nam.

My Father; "Major Vincent A. Scungio" USAF Missing In Action 4, Nov. 1966, Wild Weasel # 99 was Lost over North Viet Nam While Attacking a SAM Site 60 Miles N.E. Of Hanoi, near Kep Air Base, their Aircraft was hit by Flack Twice Caught fire and went Down.
I have been in contact with the Class of 1952 from New Castle High School Pa..

This Man, my Father is One of America's Finest Hero's, he is MY Hero. He gave his Life for Freedom. And there is No Higher Calling than to Give the Ultimate Sacrifice to Your Counrtymen.

My Father was in the 13TH Tactical Fighter Squadron, attached to the 388TH Tactical Fighter Wing. They Flew in the First F-105F Wild Weasel Thunderchief's that went into Harms Way, And this is Military History.
