About Charles “Charlie” Denver Madden Jr., age 62, died at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle, IN on Wednesday, March 04, 2015. Born on January 28th, 1953, in New Castle, Charlie remained in his home town for most of his life. He was a family man above all else, and his passing will leave his family mourning a remarkable man. He adored his wife of 22 years, Deloris, and loved to spoil her with flowers and special treats when she least expected them. His children and grand children brought him joy and fulfillment. From coaching wrestling when his sons were young to watching his grand kids play soccer, baseball, volleyball, or basketball, he was happiest when supporting the ones he loved. He treasured being outdoors. He would take the kids outside to play as much for his enjoyment as their own. He was a gifted wood worker. He liked to build and use his hands, and his family was often the beneficiary of his wonderful talents. Charlie was also an avid reader and had a sharp intellect that could challenge anyone. He was a 1972 Chrysler High School graduate. Thru a life of learning, he earned three associates degrees and worked in maintenance and repair for most of his career, first at Firestone/Nuturn/Ferodo, then Avesta and finally at Chrysler/Metaldyne. Charlie proudly served our nation in the infantry and Special Forces, Army, during the Vietnam War. He did not boast about his wartime experiences, but his service shaped him in to a man his family respected.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris (McIver) Madden; his sons, Scott Madden, Jayson (wife Amy) Madden, Josh (wife Renee) Madden all of New Castle; his stepsons, Cully (husband Michael Conrady) Johnson of Dallas, TX, Mike (wife Helen) Johnson of Menton, LA; his stepdaughter, Carrie (husband Jeff) Cravens of Muncie, IN; his grandchildren, Tyler Bell, Alexa Madden, Jacob Madden, Corbin Madden, Eliza Madden, Allyson Madden, Isaac Madden, and Gabriella Madden all of New Castle, Matt Bray, Terry (wife Amanda) Bray and Melissa (husband Chris) Shephard all of Menton, LA; his brothers, Hubert (wife Tammy) Madden, Tim (wife Carla) Madden both of New Castle, Dan (wife Beth) Madden Marion, IN; his sister, Joyce (husband Ray) Boyles of New Castle, IN and plenty of nieces and nephews to help keep family gatherings lively.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Elsie Madden, and his grandson, Grant Madden. Charlie had a personal relationship with God and knew that when his time here was done, he would be greeted by family in heaven that had gone before.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Ray Boyles and Rick Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the funeral home. Condolences and memories of Charlie may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com.

Charlie spent his final months of life at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. He was often dismayed that the facility did not have a library or book mobile program. In his memory, the family is creating the Charlie Madden Library at Stonebrooke. You can donate new or gently used books directly to Stonebrooke at 990 N 16th Street or bring them to Hinsey Brown. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
