We’re a little more than seven weeks out from this year’s class reunion so it’s time for a reminder to RSVP for the event.

As of June 28, the following classmates have indicated their intentions to attend: Robert Alpert, Annette Binet Scharite, Wendy Child Stockdale, Terry Doyle, Billie Furlong Cieniewicz, Ruth Goodrich Kirkner, Eric Houghtaling and his wife Linda, Roberta Kennedy, Bill King II, Bob Little and Bob McKinnon.
There are numerous social media sites that also have posts regarding the reunion where folks have indicated they plan to attend. However, we cannot verify those RSVPs. The names we’ve seen on various lists with whom we’ve not been in contact with are: Michael Crouse, Tom Hulse, William Kingsley, Edwina Lonon, Mike Mrowicki and Mary Precopio. In addition Karen Lott and Stewart Mills of the Class of ’73 RSVP appear on those same sites. If you are one of those people, please RSVP directly to your class coordinator. Details below.
Last year we had a total of 36 members of the Class of ’72 in attendance plus nine spouses, friends or guests for a total of 45.
This year the Neptune High School Classes of ’72 and ’73 are combining for a mini-reunion on Saturday, August 6 beginning at 8:00 p.m. The reunion will be held in the Dublin Room of Clancy’s on Rt. 71 in Neptune directly across the street from the original Neptune High School in Ocean Grove. The event will go until the bar closes or the crowd dwindles to the point where the bartenders flash the lights and usher us into the main room. The reunion is free to attend with the exception of whatever food and drink you order.
Current and former teachers, staff and administration are welcome to join us. So feel free to extend an invitation to those folks as well.
While we’ve been calling these “mini-reunions” for 10 or more years now, last year’s reunion was anything but mini. The 2015 reunion officially encompassed the Classes of ’71 through ’76. We did so in order for Clancy’s to provide us with a 7:00 p.m. start time. We were so successful it invoked memories of Yogi Berra’s quote “No one goes there nowadays. It’s too crowded.” Indeed it was too crowded with over 300 people in attendance while others were turned away. Parking was a nightmare (partially due to a sold-out show at the Great Auditorium) and the Dublin Room was packed to the gills.
So we’re scaling back a bit this year to provide for a more enjoyable experience. The Class of ’71 was invited to join us, but they’re celebrating their 45th reunion this year and have decided to hold a separate event. ’71 has assured us they’ll be back in the fold next year. So the intention going forward is that we’ll have a three-class mini-reunion the first Saturday of August every year. If a class is celebrating a five or ten year anniversary in any given year, well we’ll be down to two classes.
Clancy’s has asked that we provide them with an estimated attendance one week before the event. We’d also like to make nametags up for you in advance so please RSVP to your individual class coordinators who are:

Our philosophy is that we’re our own best entertainment. So the more of us that get together, the better time we’ll all have.
You’re also free to put together any other events around the gathering at Clancy’s. Typically several of us from the Class of ’72 will gather on the Ocean Grove beach due east of the Great Auditorium the day before and the day of the mini-reunion weather permitting. I have a black flag with a red “N” that flies over the area where we’ve set up our beach chairs. Golf outings are always popular and some of us from ’72 have even gone parasailing as a group out of the Shark River Inlet. Small groups have been known to gather at Clancy’s and other local restaurants for dinner prior to the reunion.
I think we have a terrific opportunity here and one that can be sustained for many years to come by combining classes for mini-reunions.
