Warren Brusstar

Former Major League Baseball player

What is Warren Brusstar known for?

Warren Scott Brusstar, born February 2, 1952, in Oakland, California, is a celebrated former professional baseball pitcher well-remembered for his contributions to Major League Baseball (MLB). A proud graduate of Napa High School in 1970, Brusstar embarked on a thrilling journey in baseball that lasted nearly a decade.

Brusstar's MLB career kicked off on May 6, 1977, pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies, and came to a close on October 3, 1985, with the Chicago Cubs. Over the years, he recorded impressive statistics, with a win-loss record of 28-16, 273 strikeouts, and an earned run average of 3.51. Despite frequent elbow and shoulder problems, his contributions were recognized and largely appreciated.

Throughout his professional journey, Brusstar played for renowned MLB teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies from 1977 to 1982, the Chicago White Sox in 1982, and the Chicago Cubs from 1983 to 1985. In 1980, he left an indelible mark in the sport's history by winning the World Series Championship as a member of the Phillies.

Before his professional career, Brusstar showcased his talent in college baseball at Fresno State University. Interestingly, Warren was selected multiple times in the MLB Draft — initially by the San Francisco Giants in 1970 and 1971 — but did not sign. His patience paid off when he was chosen by the Phillies in the fourth round of the 1974 MLB Draft.

Today, Brusstar continues to contribute to the sport as a pitching coach at Napa Valley College, a testament to his enduring passion for baseball. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he was inducted into the Napa Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

From a promising high school graduate to a professional baseball pitcher to an inspiring coach, Brusstar's life is indeed a tale of passion, resilience, and achievement.
