Michael Gage

Member of the California State Assembly from 1976 to 1980

What is Michael Gage known for?

Michael Gage was a notable American politician, born on May 1, 1945, in Glendale, California. Raised in Napa, California, Gage's political career took off after his graduation from Napa High School in 1963, and three years of service in the United States Army, where he distinguished himself as a loadmaster and jumpmaster.

Serving as a member of the California State Assembly from December 6, 1976, to November 30, 1980, Gage's legacy was established in California's 8th district. His political career was further characterized by his work as a staff director for the California State Senate Democratic Caucus, a field coordinator for John F. Dunlap, and his decision to step down from the Assembly to become an environmental activist.

Post politics, Gage's commitment to bettering the environment was demonstrated in his advocacy for the transition from nuclear energy to alternative energy forms. He took up the position as deputy mayor of Los Angeles under Tom Bradley from 1987 to 1990 and was elected to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. From 1992 to 1999, he served as the president of CALSTART, a non-profit clean energy company based in Pasadena, California, and from 2001 to 2003, he was the vice president and southwest regional director of the Trust for Public Land. Later, he worked for Blue Moose Farm, a sustainable farm in Salem, Oregon.

Sadly, Gage passed away after battling cancer on August 23, 2021, in Salem, Oregon. He was aged 76.
