About Me O, all the money e'er I had I spent it in good company and leisure time to sit awhile, and all the harm that ever I've done, alas it was to none but me. And all I've done for want of wit to mem'ry now I can't recall My last name is French but I am Irish Bruner( Cladi Clan): About 500 BC Celtic people from Ireland began to establish a settlement at Waregem, Belgium, in Flanders,Walloon. The Cladi clan was one of these people. The family then made their way into France and settled at Lille, France, Languedoc region. The original family name was Cladi pronounced CLAW EE ( digger), they were farmers by the water and of the water(farmed the land and the sea).Because they had emigrated from another country, and their strange name could not be attributed to a foreign language so upon asking for a name change they were given the name Becheur but the clan found it hard not only to pronounce but to spell and were issued the name Brunet dit L'Estang, so Brunet was the closest equivalent in French to the Irish Cladi. After 1719 most of the Brunet's from the Cladi clan interested deeply in their heritage became concerned about the name change because Brunet meant, by the water and Cladi's were diggers primarily by this date of the land so a movement evolved to change the name one more time from Brunet to Bruner which donates digger this kept the name more accurate for heritage sake in meaning and since the Cladi name was long gone and it was hard to pronounce, they accepted the Bruner spelling since it was close to the spelling of how the family name existed. Many Bruner’s left for Ireland and again changed the name to Farmer in keeping with their heritage. The Brunner name in Germany added the extra N for the sake of German dialect. Many, long after coming to America and Canada, many of this Cladi clan changed their name to Farmer and Brunet, following their ancestors reasoning, the family had emigrated from another country, and their strange names could not be attributed to a foreign language. Many although related to the Farmer and Brunet family from the Cladi's clan retained their Bruner surname. This is the historical record of the Cladi family for the Bruner surname. There are Bruners in France as part of this Cladi family under the Bruner name as well as Brunet dit L'Estang. There are Bruners in the United States of America as part of this Cladi family under the Bruner name as well as Farmer. There are Bruners in Canada as part of this Cladi family under the Bruner name as well as Brunet,Farmer and Bruney. There are Bruners in Switzerland as part of this Cladi family under the Bruner name. There are Bruners in Belgium as part of this Cladi family under the Bruner name as well as Brunet dit L'Estang. There are Brennans and Farmers as part of this Cladi family that are related the the Bruners of these other countries including Ireland. There are no Bruners of this Cladi family ever recorded in Germany or Austria. There are many sets of Bruners depending of the spelling of the name from their origin. To complicate matters of the Bruner name, In short here is what happened. When ancestors came to Canada and the United States of America the person who took the census would ask them their name as they got off the boat. He would write down exactly what he heard so sometimes it would be Brunet or Bruner or Brunel etc. It may have been a spelling error, for example, some one was writing down the name and wrote Bruner instead of Brunet,Brunay for Bruner or Brunney or Brunne or Brunett and thats the way it stayed. This information gathered from and traced by the names given and the DOB for William Wiley Bruner, married to Sarah Elizabeth McKibben, and Howard Holder Bruner married to Gladys Pearl Brantley.
