About Edward William Amick, 60, of Charlevoix, Michigan, went to be with the Lord suddenly on June 9th, 2005 leaving his loving family and the community he served. He is to be remembered as an adventurous, compassionate, caring husband, father, son and brother who had a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face.

Ed was born on September 30, 1944 in Marion, Ohio to Mildred Hedrick and William Amick. After marrying Carol Bader his high school sweetheart, the couple raised a family and embarked on a lifetime of building successful businesses.

Shortly after moving to Port Charlotte, Florida, Ed and Carol began Amick Realty, a business that branched into property development and capitalized on the Florida real estate boom of the 1970s and 80s.

After moving to Charlevoix, Michigan in the 90’s, he was a pioneer by bringing in the first area Subway franchise to the Charlevoix and Petoskey area, and launching Amick Lakeside Realty. As he did in Florida, Ed was an active leader in the business community and a member of the Charlevoix and Harbor Springs Chambers of Commerce. Ed was a born again Christian and locally attended Trinity Missionary Church in Petoskey.

After decades of success, Ed was able to focus on his most proud accomplishment--the water park. He wanted to build a safe place where families could go for entertainment—a place where he could hear his own grandchildren laugh and watch them play. Ed’s vision designed, financed and built the 20-acre park known as Thunder Falls Family Water Park in Mackinaw City which opened in 2004 with 150,000 visitors in its first season and boasts to have Michigan’s largest wave pool.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carol, daughter Lisa Wehr, and grandson Collin, of Suttons Bay, MI; son Rodney (Jody) Amick and grandchildren Brittany, Brooklin, and Lindsay, of North Port, FL; mother Mildred, and brother Terry (Gay) Amick, all of Charlevoix, MI; a brother Don (Carolyn) Amick of Punta Gorda, FL. Ed was preceded in death by his father, William in 1998.
