About JOHN G. MILLER

95, of Moon Township, on April 21, 2021. Born June 11, 1925 in Coraopolis, PA, son of the late Clarence and Helen (Huston) Miller. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Edith (Glaser) Miller and brother Richard C. Miller (Lois) of Valencia. Loving father of Dr. Claire L. Miller of Moon Township and David G. (Charmaine) Miller of Eagle, ID. Jack loved and enjoyed great memories with his second “family” from Ecuador, the Vasquez clan of Cuenca. Jack proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he found his career passion, combining his love of history with his masterful storytelling talents and quick humor, as a Social Studies teacher with the Moon Area Schools. During his dedicated 42-year teaching tenure, he also served as Moon Key Club sponsor, class sponsor, and Director of Student Activities, before retiring in 1993. A long-time member of Kiwanis, he was the honored recipient of the Hixon Award, the Hero in Service Award, as well as the first recipient of the appropriately named, John G. Miller Longevity Award and the Key Club Key of Honor, the highest award that can be bestowed on an individual by Key Club. In addition to his legacy of service, Jack was an avid reader, particularly in the area of history. He and Edie shared a love of travel, often making new friends along the way. Once home, they were renowned for their hospitality, opening their home to friends during the holidays to share their extensive Santa Collection. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 23rd at St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Moon at 10:00AM. A private interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at , the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh at , or the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 1 Parish Place, Moon Twp., PA. 15108.
