About William (Bill) B. Stawiany, of Moon Township, PA, passed away peacefully in his home after a brief illness, on Friday, July 27, 2018. He was 80 years old. Bill was born on February 11, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA to William and Josephine Stawiany. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a gentle soul and would do anything he could to help those in need.

Bill graduated from Munhall High School and went on to get his Bachelor's Degree in education from Duquesne University where he met Rosanne. After he graduated from Duquesne, he spent 2 years in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Benning, GA where he served in the Military Police. Upon his discharge from the Army, he came back to Pennsylvania and married Rosanne on June 15, 1963. They moved to Moon Township where he accepted a teaching position at the Moon Jr. High School where he taught Social Studies for 35 years. Bill loved working with and spending time with his students. Over the years he also spent time coaching both softball and track and field. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Football Officials Association and spent 40 years officiating high school football across Western Pennsylvania.

In addition to his career and family, Bill loved the outdoors. He along with his family loved to fish and camp. He eventually got into golfing and he enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his friends. During the fall and winter when it was colder, Bill enjoyed following his favorite sports teams – Penn State and Notre Dame football and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bill was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosanne (Borden) and their 4 daughters, Denise Pepke of South Fayette, PA; Valerie (Bryan) Morrison of Sharpsville, PA; Melissa Speer of York, PA; and Adrianne (Jim) DiGiandomenico of Findlay Township, PA. In addition to his daughters, Bill was blessed to have 8 grandchildren – Thomas, Alexander, and Nicholas Pepke; Marek Morrison; Peyton, Trenton, and Laci Speer; and Hailey DiGiandomenico. He is also survived by a sister Joan Churma and a brother Donald Theilman. He is preceded in death by a sister Irene Giran and son-in-law Thomas Pepke.

Family and friends will be received at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Road from 7-9 on Monday as well as 2-4 and 7-9 on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church followed by internment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors accorded. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, Bill would have appreciated people supporting our military and donating to the Wounded Warrior Project.
