About Event

Hi all, I spoke with Kyle yesterday and she gave me the names of four hotels in the Mineola area (I am sure there are others, but this is a start). They are a Marriott property-the Springhill suites at 516-880-1000, a Hilton property-Homewood suites at 516-747-0230, a Red Roof Inn at 516-794-2555 and a Holiday Inn at 516-997-5000.. FYI, Sue Plunkett has informed me that the Homewood will be under construction in October; therefore, certain amenities will be unavailable. I am hearing from more class members, so thanks for spreading the word. Bonnie Bennet, Bunny Grossman, Kyle and I will be dividing up the Data Base list from MHS and attempting to locate those who have not joined this website or for whom we have no means of contact.
As you can see, we had to change the date, but this promises to be a much better situation for all concerned. We may extend the duration of the reunion by an hour ( depending on funds) and we may also schedule additional festivities for the Saturday. I have received a lot of positive feedback and many members of our class are joining this website, which makes it easier for me to disseminate info as I have it. Thanks to all who have helped me by providing additional contact information. Let's keep that momentum going ! Once we have music and other details in place, I will update again with respect to cost and due dates for payment. Thanks and keep spreading the word. Athena

Does anyone remember how many elementary schools fed into MHS?

Jackson Avenue, Cross Street, Meadow Drive, Willis Avenue. Was there a 5th?
I think that’s it. I only remembered three. We also only had one Jr High. Right? I was trying to figure out how we had 400+ in our class with so few feeder schools. Maybe we added students who didn’t go on to a Catholic High.
Yes, one Jr. High (which was the High School till 1962). And, Yes, there were students who had gone to Catholic school(s) before high school.
I just did some digging. Only three elementary schools now and the HS has students grades 8-12. Only a little over 1,000 for all 5 grades. Wonder what is going on. Maybe we’ll find out during our tour on Saturday.
Some things don’t change. I’m still the nerdy girl asking all the questions
You got my curiosity going. There were 5 elementary schools (I'd forgotten Hampton Street). Cross Street closed in 2012; Willis Avenue in 2014. Lowered birth rate I suspect led to smaller class sizes (now about half of when we were in school). A weird configuration is: Meadow Drive and Hampton Street have only pre-K and K-2; Jackson Avenue only 3-4; Middle School 5-7; and MHS 8-12. Hey - we're educating others who look at this message board. Cheers to you, Hilary!
Hillary,
It wasn't a public school but does Corpus Christi School count.
Bill King
Yes Corpus Christi and St Aidens were both in out district, I believe.
Yeah, they were. I had a couple of friends at MHS that came from St. Aidens. I believe CCS closed down in 2015. I wonder if St. Aidens school is still up and running.
Yes it is. I don’t know if there are any other private schools in the area. We have many religious and charter schools in my district that have severely impacted our public school enrollment. They are good schools so I can’t fault the parents for wanting the best place for their children.
I'm with ya sister.
Yes, the fifth was Hampton Street.

Looking forward to seeing all of you. I just can't get past the change in school colors from maroon and gray to red and white!

So, did they change the school song? As in: "Proudly maroon & grey, we will sing of thee" ? Change is hard.
Hi Liz, The colors were changed many years ago. Not sure if there is still a school song. I can remember part of it. Maybe we can give it a try!
Oddly enough, I remember it. I think I remember song lyrics more than anything else! Looking forward to catching up.
anyone think I should bring our Girls' week songs with me??? haha
That would be a riot. I forgot all about Girls' Week.
YES! And pictures if you have them!

Hi to all members of the class of 1969. It's Athena . I have been in touch with Kyle Dempsey who helped me set up a final date and venue for our 50th reunion. Unfortunately, the 12th was not available anywhere in the Mineola vicinity; therefore, the date has changed to Friday, October 11th at the Knights of Columbus on Jericho Turnpike. On a positive note, this change of date may enable the festivities to continue into the Saturday evening (perhaps at a local pub or eatery). Bearing in mind that many of you will have to incur lodging and travel costs, we are trying to keep the actual reunion price down as much as possible. Therefore, it will be a buffet dinner which includes beer, wine and soda. There will be a cash bar available for those who prefer something else. Once we have booked a DJ, we will be able to send you the information re price and date by which payment needs to be received. We will also be posting lodging information (Sue Plunkett is working on this). I will be visiting the hall next week with Barbara O'Connell to determine menu and put down a deposit. Bonnie Bennet, along with the names mentioned above, will be helping to locate "missing" members of our class using information from an old, and most likely, obsolete list. That is all the info I have for now. Please encourage fellow alumni who have not joined this website to do so, as I will be using it to send out information. THERE WILL BE NO MAILING. Thanks also to Gary Besosa, Jack Hutchison, and Kenny Tubbs for getting the word out. A fifty year reunion is something special and worthy of recognition. Let's make this a memorable occasion.

Reunion Apparel

The class of 1969 experienced history on a regular basis: The Summer of Love, the Tet Offensive, Nixon's rise to power, The Beatles' creative peak... very few spans of time can claim to have shaped American culture as much as the late 60's, and you & your Mineola High School classmates experienced it together.

Now as you and your fellow Mustangs prepare to enjoy retirement it's the perfect time to reunite and share where life has brought you in the last five decades. Your reunion is scheduled and AlumniClass is your spot for arranging travel plans, ordering custom Mustangs merchandise to show off your school spirit, and connect with classmates ahead of time.
