About George Barrington Coolidge
AUGUST 6, 1941 – JANUARY 12, 2020
George Barrington Coolidge, known in his childhood as Barry, passed away January 12, 2020 at the age of 78. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Judith, nee Kressler; devoted father of David (Miriam) Coolidge, Steven (Karin) Coolidge, Andrew (Emily) Coolidge, and Susan Coolidge; cherished grandfather of John, Elizabeth, Anna, Abigail, Jane, Sarah, Emma, Lauren, and Mark; caring son of the late George and Evelyn Coolidge; dear cousin of Norma Dorn and Carole Sooy. George graduated from Middletown High School (Middletown, NJ) in 1959 and proceeded to graduate from Lafayette College (Easton, PA) with a BA in Economics in 1963. While there, he became a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was a member of the ROTC in college, and proudly served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army in Germany until 1965. He was certainly successful in business- he worked for 32 years at Sears, Roebuck and Co. and was the co-owner of both Signs By Tomorrow (Columbia, MD) and Coolidge Group, Ltd. (Lisle & St. Charles, IL). George served on the Lisle District 202 School Board for many years, was the head of the Lisle High Booster Club, and loved being the videographer for Lisle High athletics. Speaking of sports- George served as the commissioner of the Lisle Baseball League for several years and coached many sports teams his kids participated in. George and Judy enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay and George served as treasurer of the Susquehanna Power Squadron. In their retirement, George and Judy found great joy traveling in their RV; George served as president of the Jolly Ramblers Holiday Rambler RV Club. George “Barry” Coolidge will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Visitation Monday, January 20, 3 PM, until time of service at 7 PM, at Blake Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle. Interment private for family. Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.pancan.org, or the Coffin-Siris Syndrome Foundation for research at www.coffinsiris.org, which afflicts George’s youngest granddaughter Lauren.
