About	Elizabeth passed away September 20, 2012, after a 3-year battle with cancer. After graduating from Southern Adventist University, Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1974, Elizabeth work in Hawaii for 6 years. She moved to California, became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and began teaching in an LVN school. In 1994 she moved to Weslaco, Texas, to teach in the Valley Grande Health Sciences academy. In 1996, she founded New Start School, McAllen, Texas, a school training Nurse Assistants, Home Health Aides, and Physical Therapy Technicians. Within 10 years it became the second largest school of its kind in Texas, with as many as 1,635 students per year. More than 10,000 students have graduated from New Start. She leaves behind her husband, George (Len) Powell, of McAllen; her 92-year-old mother, Jane Sweitzer Gatsch, Littleton, Colorado, but until 2003 a life-long resident of Middletown; and her sister, Muriel Gatsch Parker, of Littleton, an alumnus of Middletown High School.
