Jose (Tito) A Sotomayor, class of 1980

Jose Sotomayor was Head Drum Major 78-80 Marching Chiefs. He was an MCC Thespian - leading role in West side story. He engaged in all Pep Rallies and lead the Marching Chiefs in the FAMU Parades, U of M Parades. Bethune Cookman Parade, Member of The MCC Wind Ensemble (Christmas Concerts, Silver Knight Awards Musical Guest 1979), for three years attending Summer Band without a vacation. His achivements are All County Concert Band 1977, Winner of the John Phillip Sousa Award 1977, Head Drum Major of The MCC JV Band, Outstanding 10th Grade Musician MCC Marching Band 1977, Head Drum Major MCC Marching Chiefs 1978-1980, All County(Dade) Marching Band 1978-1979, Key Club 1980, MCC Thespian 1979-1980, MCC "C" letter and two bars sweater, Carmen Nappo Youth Synphony Tuba Player - Most Prominent Musician 1979, and "The Last Head Drum Major of the "Wayne Hoffman Dynasty"(Band Director).
In 1979, Band Director Wayne Hoffman left the Band, Jose was left leading the Band for three halftime games (one cancelled) to later receive David Pascal as Band Director. Jose never missed a Band Activity with the exception of a Parade in 1980 because he had to help his ailing single mother (Cancer and Dementia). Jose faced a demotion hearing with Band Director David Pascal for his absence (which, Asst DM Michael Homes led). During the hearing, Jose and his mother were present and after being insulted refused to be heard, Jose quit the Band in February 1980, after three years of consistant service. Jose grduated in June 1980.

Jose still remains in MCC's Chronicles as one of the most exceptional MCC Band Members' and Talented Head Drum Major in history. Because of his efforts in keeping the Band together during the most difficult of situations and later involving himself with Public service, and as an unsung hero, he continues to be a Role model for today's chieftains.

Today, Jose is CEO of Evidence Data Inc. A research, investigative and service company. Jose became a Spanish Gospel Singer in 1990 and is also currently Pastor and Founder of Land Of Moriah Christian Ministries(2002-Present). Jose is currently serving as a Pastor at Christ The Rock Community Church in Cooper City. Jose is married with three children and resides in Miami Florida.
