Graduation Year Class of 1967
Date of Passing Sep 05, 2011
About Ben lost his fight with CJD on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital in Helena, Montana. Funeral services were Friday Sept. 16 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Stevensville, Montana. Burial at Western Montana Veterans Cemetary in Missoula after the memorial service. On Saturday, Sept. 17, family and friends celebrated Ben's wonderful life at the family home in Stevensville, Montana. Born 3/6/49 in Gary to Henry and Maxine Buhr, grew up in Merrillville, and graduated with the class of 1967. Married Peggy Pavel, class of 1969, on 4/4/70. while serving his country in the Army at Fort Knox, KY. Ben lived and worked as a carpenter for more than 35 years in Loveland, Colo., Harrison, Ark., and Wentzville, Troy, and Hawk Point, Mo. In 2009, a semi-retired Ben and Peggy moved to Stevensville to be closer to their children. He was a substitute school bus driver and custodian in the Stevensville School District. His faith in Jesus Christ made as big an impact with all he met as much as his 6 foot 8, 275 lb. staure did. His compassionate heart and gentle nature made him liked by all, while his sense of humor earned him many eye rolls and head shakes. He enjoyed square dancing, photographing elk and other wildlife, and watching John Wayne movies (we think he has them all!) and the Denver Broncos. Ben is preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Shelly. Those left to miss his presence and laugh include his wfe, Peggy; daughter, Diana and Lewis Murphy Jr. and Cameron of Belgrade; son, Brian and Susan Buhr of Helena; sister and brothers, Bonnie and Shelby Gibson of Portage, In, Byron and Kathy Buhr of Jefferson City, MO, Bill and Rosie Buhr of Harrison, Ark.; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends that span the U.S. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to Our Savior Lutheran Church at 184 Pine Hollow Road, Stevensville, MT 59870.
