About	SUFFOLK - Robert Sherman Pierce Jr. went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, after a brief and sudden illness. Rob was born on June 12, 1963, in Newport News. He graduated from Menchville High School in 1981 and earned an engineering degree from Virginia Tech in 1985. He was employed by Northrop Grumman and had been a member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. Rob's favorite pastime was sailing. He raced various sailboats out of Warwick Yacht Club as a teenager and Hampton Yacht Club as an adult. He sailed with his family and friends in the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the British Virgin Islands. Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Ora Groom and Wiley and Frances Pierce. He leaves behind his wife, Karen Dugas Pierce and their three children, Kristen Elizabeth, Kenneth Andrew and Stephen Robert Pierce; his parents, Sherman and Janet 'Dinkie' Pierce of Southern Shores, N.C.; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Pierce Spicknall and Mark Spicknall and their children, Virginia and Soren, of Ann Arbor, Mich. Rob also has many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who are grieving his passing. He will be missed terribly and all of those who knew and loved him will cherish the memories they have of their time with him on this earth. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
