What is Lee Weigel known for?

Lee Elmer Weigel, born on November 15, 1963, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, is an American retired professional football player known for his stint as a running back. He played college football for the Wisconsin–Eau Claire Blugolds, where he distinguished himself as a powerhouse on the field.

During his high school days at Marshfield High School, Weigel was an active participant in the football and track and field teams. In his senior year, he ran for 455 yards on 90 carries, a commendable 5.0 average, and achieved 13 receptions for 161 yards.

In college, Weigel made a stunning start by scoring two touchdowns and accruing 204 rushing yards in his first game ever. Despite a knee injury that saw him missing three games, Weigel topped his conference with an average of 129 rushing yards per game. As a junior, he was named first-team All-WSUC and a first-team All-American, after rushing 1,030 yards and securing 12 touchdowns.

Although he was not drafted in the 1986 NFL Draft, his sheer determination led him to sign with the Dallas Cowboys in 1986. However, it was his performance for the Green Bay Packers in 1987 that marked his professional career. He appeared in two games for the Packers as one of the replacement players during the 1987 NFL strike.

Despite his short stint, Weigel showed promising prowess on the field during his NFL career. His NFL statistics include 10 rush attempts, a total of 26 rushing yards, one reception, and 17 receiving yards. His legacy stands as a testament to his perseverance and talent in American football.
