"SUN LAKES, Ariz. -Mildred "Millie" Elizabeth Ernst (nee Kasza), age 87, passed away at Hospice of the Valley , Phoenix, Arizona on September 24, 2013 following a long illness.

Millie was born February 8, 1926 in Bay Bridge, Ohio. A long time Lorain resident, she had made her home in Sun Lakes, Arizona for the past 18 years.

Millie was a 1944 graduate of Amherst High School, where she and her twin sister, Nellie, were drum majorettes with the marching band. She was a member of Marian Guild and St. Anthony Church, Lorain, and was very active in the Lorain City Schools P.T.A. while her children were attending, and was co-owner of the Big Dipper Drive-In, Lorain. Millie enjoyed sewing, baking, and hosting family and friends for meals. Her family was her passion in life and what brought her the most joy.

Mrs. Ernst is survived by her eight children, Daniel Ernst, Janet (Ken) Schleimer, and Cynthia (Peter) Wagner all living in Arizona; David (Susan) Ernst, of Amherst, OH, Darryl (Jennifer) Ernst, of Manikin Sabot, VA; Timothy (Maria) Ernst of Lorain, OH; Robert (Kathy) Ernst, of Avon, OH; Christopher (Robin) Ernst, of Sheffield Lake, OH; twin sister Nellie Firestone formerly of Lorain, and now residing in Phoenix, AZ; her brother-in-law Philip Bellino of Amherst, OH; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert E. Ernst in 1991; parents John and Maria (nee Soyak) Kasza; sisters Mary Kovach, Elizabeth Katonak and Anna Jean Gergel; brothers John, Steve and Frank Kasza.

The Ernst Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Friends may also call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of closing prayers at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Richard Hudak will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
