About	Phyllis Gertrude nee Braun Blackford, 96 31 Dec 1916 - 26 Jan 2013 Amherst High School - Class of 1935 "AMHERST - Phyllis Gertrude Blackford (nee Braun), age 96, of Amherst, passed away Saturday morning, January 26, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a short illness. A lifelong resident of Amherst, she was born on December 31, 1916 to the late Phillip and Kathryn (nee Fuhrman) Braun. Phyllis graduated from Amherst High School in 1935. On June 26, 1937, she married Glenn D. Blackford, her beloved husband of 74 years, who preceded her in death on September 10, 2011 also at the age of 96. She was a loving homemaker devoted to raising her four children. She enjoyed boating along with her husband and family and traveling across the country on trips in their RV. She was a member of Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, Amherst Eagles Club AERIE #1442 and former member of the Eagles Drill Team. Surviving are her sons, Gary G. (Marilyn) Blackford of Wakeman, Dale L. (Barbara) Blackford of Amherst, Glenn A. (Laura) Blackford of Lagrange, and daughter Sharon L. (Richard) Dillon of Vermilion, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Gerald Braun, Althea Balog, Doris Conry and twins Morris Braun and Maurine Goll. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Gathering in Celebration of Phyllis's Life will be held Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 1-6 PM at the Amherst Eagles Club #1442, 1161 Milan Ave., Amherst, Ohio, 44001. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions, in Phyllis's memory, to New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053. Mrs. Blackford's funeral arrangements are under the direction of her nephew, Joseph D. Cambarare, Licensed Funeral Director, and the Bollinger-Bican Funeral Home, 9810 Denison Ave., Cleveland, 216-631-9292.
