About Rev. Kristi R. Foster
14 Nov 1972 - 26 Mar 2012
Marion L Steele High School - Class of 1991

"Rev. Kristi R. Foster, chaplain at Rocky Mountain College for the past four years, died on Monday March 26, 2012, at her residence after a 10-month battle with colon cancer. Her husband, Robert Peterson, was her primary caregiver for the nine months of their marriage.

She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, Nov. 14, 1972, the daughter of Rev. Dr. Joseph R. and Barbara J. Foster (Frederick, Md.), the second of four children. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sisters Keri L. Sugerik, (husband David), Lorain, Ohio, and Kae Lee Aschettino, (husband Ray), Hebron, Ky.; brother Mark W. Foster, (wife Jenn), Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four nieces and three nephews, Devin and Abigail Sugerik, Eva and Ean Foster, Emily Aschettino, and Ben and Olivia Sandt; grandparents Joseph Foster and Betty Koester; Rob's parents, Bruce and Sue Peterson; sister Beth (husband Kurt) Sandt; and special friend Susannah DeBenedetto.

Kristi graduated from Earlham College, Richmond, Ind., where she majored in outdoor education which led her for seven years to serve as a member on the staff at the Frost Valley YMCA Camp, Claryville, N.Y., where she first met her husband Rob. She received her theological training at Eden Theological Seminary, Webster Grove, Mo., and was ordained into ministry of the United Church at Grace United Church of Christ, Frederick, Md., in 2004. She served at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Vermilion, Ohio, before being called to Rocky Mountain College. Kristi was a champion for justice no matter what the circumstance in which she found it, was a compassionate counselor, a scholar, and a mentor to women in various settings.

She enjoyed traveling and learning new cultures, and had a special relationship with the people of Simbo Island of the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific and became an adopted daughter of the village of Mege, where she taught scriptural studies to women and empowered their economic growth.

She was active in community service, co-led a knitting circle, and most recently co-directed a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. It was her hope that even though her cancer could not be cured that through research, others would benefit from the fund raising she promoted.

A service in celebration of her life and ministry will be held at Losekamp Hall, Rocky Mountain College, on Friday, March 30, at 10 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be designated for The American Cancer Society or Rocky Mountain College Chaplain's Fund.

Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cfgbillings.com through "Our Families."
