About	Robert David Meyer, Sr, 79 8 Jun 1931 - 5 Mar 2012 Amherst High School - Class of 1940 "Robert David Meyer, Sr., 79, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at his home, following a year long battle with lung cancer. He was born June 8, 1932 in Cecil, Ohio. Robert has made his home in Amherst since 1940 and graduated from Amherst High School. Robert served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. During his tour he received the United States Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed at Ford Motor Company in Avon for 28 years, retiring as an inspector on July 1, 1994. Before working at Ford, he also owned and operated the Shell Gas Station on Cleveland Avenue. Robert has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst since 1940. His hobbies included golfing and fishing. Robert also enjoyed the time he spent restoring his 1919 Dodge Touring and a 1931 Model A Ford to their original beauty. Robert’s greatest joy was spending time playing with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joan Marie Meyer (nee Penfound); sons, Robert Meyer, Jr. and his wife Mary, Mark Meyer and his wife Lori, Steven Meyer and Patrick Meyer, all of Amherst; daughter, Nancy Joan Meyer of Elyria; grandchildren, Keith, Dustin, Nicholas, David, Courtney, Brittany, and Lesley Meyer and Lauren Dominico; four great granddaughters, Haley, Keeley, Emma, Adah; brothers, Anthony Meyer of Waterville, Ohio, Donald Meyer of Amherst; and his sister, Rosemary Haas of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen, Elmer, David; sister, Marie Socha; and his parents, Edmund David and Margaret Meyer (nee Schmitz). Friends may call Thursday, March 8, 2012, from 3 to 5 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. The Rev. Fr. Michael Denk, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will officiate.
