About	Helen R.nee Jackson Deidrick, 89 25 July 1922 - 1 January 2012 Amherst High School - Class of 1940 "Helen R. Deidrick (nee: Jackson), 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at her home. She was born July 25, 1922 in Peace River, Alberta, Canada. Helen was raised in the Amherst area and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1940. Helen was a loving homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst where she volunteered as a sacristan, washing cloths and linens, and helping out with the weekly fish fries. Helen traveled extensively throughout the United States frequenting Texas, California and it's national parks as well as visiting Hawaii nine times. She loved animals especially her cats. Her hobbies included puzzles, keeping her journal and making plans for her next trip. Helen loved baking and was known for her wonderful rolls. Survivors include her sons Gary G. Deidrick and his wife Roxanne of Elyria, James Edward Deidrick and his wife Christine of Cleveland, Philip J. Deidrick of Abilene, Texas; daughters Janet R. Smith and her husband Gilbert of Vermilion, Joyce A. Deidrick of Elyria; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brother William Farrell of Sandusky; sister Alberta Eddy of Amherst. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years Gilbert Edward Deidrick on October 19, 1995; brother James Jackson; sister Alice Ferkel; and by her parents Ellsworth A. Jackson and Mary Ruth Farrell. Friends may call Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor , will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, OH 44001.
