"AMHERST TOWNSHIP - John Joseph Kingsley, 83 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a brief illness.

He was born December 18, 1927 in Amherst, Ohio. John was a lifetime resident of Amherst Township and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1945.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He employed as a painter thru the Elyria/Lorain Painter's local #240 for many years and continued to work for his son Jeff at Kingsley Painting before retiring at the age of 75. John was a member of the American Legion Post #118 in Amherst. He was also active with the Lorain County 4-H where he served as an advisor for many years. John enjoyed being outdoors, doing yard work and tending to his garden. He loved his cats and his dog Omar. He was an avid Indians fan. Over the years he found great joy traveling with his family.

Survivors include his wife of fifteen years Frances Kingsley (nee: Perkins); his sons and their wives Jon D. and Marcia Kingsley of Sandusky, Jeffrey L. and Nanette Kingsley of Vermilion; his daughters and their husbands Lisa and Richard Benton of Collins, Jennifer and K.C. Sroka, Renee and James Karason all of Vermilion; his step son Jeffrey Doto of Toledo; his step daughters Debra Ungerer and her husband Michael of Norwalk, Kim and Tony Hager; Susan Eversole all of Castalia; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and his sister Goldie Bartlome of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his parents John R. and Margaret Kingsley (nee: Pandy).

Friends may call Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Attila Szemesi, pastor of Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Military honor will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Kidney Foundation; 6110 Executive Blvd; Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-9813.
