"LORAIN - Joan Park (nee: Gambis), 78 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010, at her home following a eighteen-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born November 21, 1932 in South Amherst where she lived until the age of twelve. In 1945 she moved to the Lorain and Amherst area and graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1950. Joan was employed as a Realtor with Howard Hanna-Smythe Cramer from 1985 until 2006.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Joan was a member of the Golden Agers and the Profitable Investment Club. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Ladies of the Links Golf League, the Rebman's Seniors Couples Bowling League as well as the Happy Bunch League.

In 2010 Joan was inducted into the Rebman's Bowling Hall of Fame. She loved her grandchildren and the sporting events they participated in and attended as many of their sporting events as possible.

She loved traveling both in the United States and in Europe. Her hobbies included crocheting and gardening.

Survivors include her sons and their wives James and Carla Park of Amherst, Michael and Kellea Park of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ronald and Mary Park of Corpus Christis, Texas, Gregory and Carole Park of Austin, Texas and Jeffrey Park of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughters and their husbands Denise and David Nail of Elyria and Janine and Tom Myers of Oberlin; eighteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren, her sister and her husband Josephine "Jo" and Steve Speckhart of Lorain; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years James Edgar Park on September 15, 2000; her granddaughter Michaela in 1986; her brother Ben Gambis at the age of twelve; her sister Estelle Szurpicki and her infant sister Florence Gambis; and by her parents Steve and Anastasia Gambis (nee: Giecewicz). Also preceding her was her companion of later years Paul Dulemba on March 27, 2009.
Friends may call Monday, December 27, 2010, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.

Closing prayers will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Memorial Fund; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, OH 44001.
