About	GEORGE S. SYKES* George S. Sykes, 58, of Five Forks Road, Cartersville, Georgia, died Friday, December 25, 2009 following a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Mr. Sykes was born March 18, 1951, the son of Lorace W., Sr. and Geraldine Hancock Sykes and was of the Protestant faith. He was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, graduated from Mainland High School in 1970, moved to Cartersville in 1996 and had worked for twelve years at A&D Contracting Company. Surviving are his wife, Marian (Boots) Sykes of Cartersville; a son, George E. Sykes of Bunnell, Florida; a brother, Lorace W. Sykes, Jr of Van Cleave, Mississippi; stepchildren, John Gardner and Angela Gardner, both of CarTersville; two step grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara Davidson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 P.M. until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Transitions Hospice, 610 Shorter Ave, Suite 9, Rome, GA 30165.
