A Message From Madison School Board President, Rex Reigert Class of '66

Hi Everyone, My name is Rex Reigert (Class of 1966). After teaching for 35 years(30 at MHS), I am presently serving my sixth year on the Madison Board of Education and have been Board President  for the past two years.  A project about which I am very passionate is our school construction project.  Since I have been on the Board, I have been a part of the Facilities Committee and have been chairmen for the past five years. For those of you in Madison you have seen the chaning landscape  but for those of you out of town,  I am happy to announce we are finally beginning construction of our $42 million project with our partners the Ohio Facilities School Commission. We are very excited about the construction of our new Middle School which will be located on Middle Ridge Road west of the High School and football field and our new southern Elementary School behind the Memorial Complex the former Madison Memorial High School. I encourage you to go to our website for updates.  In the near future we will have a construction camera linked to our website, so you can see the project develop over the next year live.
In addition to the new buildings, our Administration has taken advantage of state legislation to renovate our present Middle School on the corner of Chapel and Redbird Roads which will be our northern Elementary School. Our goal is for all buildings to be ready for occupation in the fall of 2013.
I know I have said this in numerous places before, but cannot say enough  how  fortunate the community is to have  Dr. Roger Goudy as our Superintendent.  He brings to us not only his  educational expertise but a wealth of building experience in the Solon, Strongsville and South Euclid Lyndhurst communities.
With new buildings comes the loss of old ones.  Since our new Elementary School is on the Memorial property, we will be tearing it down. The abatement and demolition of what many of us remember as the Memorial High School Building will begin in  August.  I know I have a lot of fond memories of my time there as do many of you.  Our AV class at the high school will be putting together a video scrapbook.  If  you have something you want to share see the school web page for more details.  Also if
you are in the neighborhood and want to take one last look please plan on doing so soon. If you want to walk the building one last time contact the Board office at (440) 428-2166.
As we remember the old, we plan for the new.  Our new  buildings will emphasize a safe,  healthy , and contemporary learning environment that will be  designed for both school and community orientated activities. I am planning on keeping you posted of our progress until the project is completed. So until the next newsletter have a great summer.

Sincerely,
Rex
