R.R. Gillock Is Honored Poshumously,..MARSHALL - Presentation of 2 of 5 new medals, awarded posthumously to Sp-5 Raymond Richard Gillock, 22, son of Mrs. Idell Williamson & Howard Gillock, Lgv, & brother of Mrs. W. E. McNeil, Marshall, were made in Mrs. McNeil's home by Maj.Grady Luttrell, Shreveport, Sun. Maj. Luttrell, unit adviser at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, Shreveport, explained that 3 more medals awarded to Sp-5 Gillock, would be be awarded on their arrival. The medals presented Sun: the Purple Heart & the Good Conduct. Earlier. he had received his 1st Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Combat Medical Badge & Marksman's Badge with Rifle Bar. Yet to be presented: Bronze Medal, Air Medal, & Silver Star. Mrs. Gillock was advised of the forthcoming medals Maj. Gen. Kenneth G Wickham of the Adjutant General's Office in Washington, D. C. Sp-5 Gillock's parents, Mrs. Idell Williamson & Howard Gillock, Lgv, brother, Robert Gillock, Waco, & sisters, Mrs. McNeil & Mrs. Linda Johnson, accepted his medals. Sp5 Gillock was killed in combat on a search & destroy mission near Hue in S. Vietnam March 28, 1968. He was to return to the U.S. in 2 months. Graduate of LHS. He received his basic training at Fort Polk LA & more adv. training at San Antonio. Was an Army Medic 1st Co., 7th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division.
