Louis George Hemko

Louis (“Lou”) George Hemko passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ surrounded by his daughter and brother. He was 77 years old.

Lou was the loving husband of the late Patricia Ann Hemko. He was also predeceased by Frank Weiland and his brother-in-law, Lawrence Golan.

Born in Rahway, NJ, Lou was the son of the late Louis and Mary Rita Keating Hemko.

Lou will be sadly missed and remembered by his daughter, Patricia (“Patti”) Hemko Alloway, his granddaughter, Alexandria (“Lexi”) Ann Alloway; his two sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Golan and Maria and Nicholas Campana, his brother and sister-in-law, Francis (“Frank”) and Raleigh Ridge Hemko and his nieces and nephews; Lisa Holland, Wanda Turner, Larry Golan, Nicholas Campana, Marybeth Campana Bronscheer, Teresa Wishon, Gregory Campana, LeeAnn Hemko and Brianne Hemko Calhoun. He will also be missed by numerous extended family members and friends.

Lou lived in New Jersey his entire life, with the exception of attending college at the University of Montana and two years spent in the Army. At the time of his death, he resided in Brick, NJ and was extremely close to his neighbors who became his close friends whom he loved and cherished.

Lou proudly served in the Army, as a chaplain’s assistant, having been honorably discharged at a level E5 (Sergeant) after a period of two years.

Lou loved to travel, especially taking cruises, loved his BritBox viewing, loved to feed the squirrels, birds and chipmunks on his deck, complete projects at his home and lend his friendship and his aid to all those around him. He had an amazing green thumb, and had gardens and plants inside and outside his home that were beautiful. Lou gave without asking, and silently made sure people knew he was there for them. Lou was extremely crafty, having inherited the nickname of “MacGyver”, as he could figure out a solution to any problem and build or fix anything without fail. Patti will forever have the kitchen and library in her house that she and her Dad rebuilt years ago. Lou loved his dog, Lane, who passed away about a month before he did. He loved his bright red convertible, and old Thunderbirds. He loved the “Grinch”, and fittingly and jokingly called himself “Grumpa” to Lexi. His dry sense of humor was sometimes a bit much for some, but it went with his character and you could not help but laugh at it. His smile was one in a million, and his laugh was infectious. He was a very brave man, even in the end. He was stubborn and strong willed, but in an admirable way. His time on earth was too short for him and for those who loved him, especially Patti and Lexi, who will miss him deeply.

Relatives and friends are invited to Lou’s memorial service, on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at a time to be confirmed, at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Road in Richboro, PA 18954. All are invited back to Patti’s house after for a celebration of life, which is what Lou would have loved. His interment will take place privately, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The ALS Association at PO Box 37022 in Boone, IA 50037-0022 or www.als.org/donate or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 1500 Rosecrans Avenue; Suite 200 in Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or www.pancan.org
