Bill Brubaker

Class of 1956

Fourth generation Washingtonian, born in 1938 and raised in
Spokane. Graduated from Lewis & Clark High School, Washington State University in 1961 and received a Masters Degree in Communications in 1968 from the University of Washington.
Bill began his broadcasting career in Spokane at KXLY Radio & TV, became News Director at KPOJ Radio in Portland and in 1962 joined the News staff of KOMO Radio in Seattle. During that time Bill also was a corespondent for ABC Radio in Los Angeles then as a reporter-anchorman for KOMO Television.
In 1987, He was appointed to the Snohomish County Council, subsequently elected to the position for two terms. During this time Bill also was the President of The Puget Sound Council of Governments and Chairman of the Regional Transit Authority.
In 1994 he was appointed as an Assistant Secretary Of Transportation for the State of Washington and directed the Department’s Aviation Division. After leaving the State, Bill worked as a consultant until his Retirement in 2003.
Bill is married (Marlene Watson LC Class of '58) with two grown daughters and two grandchildren. He is author of the book: Never As It seems, and whimsical look at the Television News Business, In 1991 he was presented a Freedoms Foundation Medal for Public Communication.
