Graduation Year Class of 1980
Date of Passing Dec 13, 2008
About On Saturday night, December 13th at 7:30 p.m. Terry Long died of a heart attack while in New York City. Terry was in great spirits and had no apparent signs of ill health or not feeling well. Terry had organized a trip for 35 staff from Children's Guild to go to NY City this weekend to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, view the department store windows and enjoy the feeling of Christmas in the City. As everyone knows Terry loved theater and he loved The Guild. He spent his last hours on this planet doing the things he loved and being with the people that were such an important part of his life.

Terry was a prominent member of the Baltimore Theatre community for more than 2 decades. He directed the Spotlighters 25th Anniversary Season in 1987 - It's Only a Play. This was Terry's fourth play at Spotlighters in 12 months. He has previously directed Scenes from American Life, The Robber Bridegroom, and Gemini. Terry would go on that same year to direct The Foreigner, March of the Falsettos and The Mystery of Edwin Drood at other theaters in Baltimore.

Terry rapidly became a standard among Baltimore's many theaters, bringing his wonderfully creative style of directing and his ability to develop a tight and cohesive team among the cast and crew. Most recently Terry had directed annually at Spotlighters. Some of his most recent credits include: Corpus Christi, Laramie Project, Bat Boy, Southern Baptist Sissies, Pageant and the hilarious Rudolph, the Red Hosed Reindeer. Terry's last direction was at Fells Point Corner Theatre, the critically acclaimed, Take Me Out.

Terry was an important part of the lives of many of us in Baltimore Theatre. He has left us with so many fond memories that his spirit will live on in all of us. We will all miss that special sense of humor and his dedication to theatre.

Terry is survived by his husband, Brian Erickson, his sister, Melanie Loving (Texas City, TX) and his brother, Gary Long (Nacodoches, TX).
