Jarrhl {jerry} Funk

Class of 1956

Most of what I have to say is not my story. I graduated in "56" in a class of 10-12. My mother, Gladys Martinson Funk grew up on a family farm south of Audubon. She never attended high school but was very knowledgeable. My mother's cousin who lived on the next farm did go to high school and graduated in 1939. Her name is Betty Lindblad Murphy and lives with her daughter in Mesa, Az and she is or will be 94. In order to attend high school her parents rented a room in Audubon above Swanson's grocery store. She roomed with Virginia Pearson White who later became a teacher and taught high school at Hitterdahl high school. The reason they had to room in Audubon I was told that there was no school bus service for rural kids or the service couldn't be depended on. I talk to Betty Lindblad at times to inquire about past family things. At 94 she has an excellent memory although she spent most of her life after high school in Florida.
