Heidi Van Arnem, class of 1984

In 1999 Heidi launced iCan.com a comprehensive collection of news, information and resources that serves as a communication platform for the collective voice of the disability population. She then expanded iCan!'s scope, partnering with such corporations as General Motors and America Online to provide a suite of products and services designed to evaluate, prepare and promote corporate commitment to the disability market. Heidi- a successful businesswoman, entepreneur & inventor- was recognized by surrounding media outlets as USA Today and the New York Times for her leadership position in the disability community. She also won numerous awards and accolades for business acheivements and community outreach: Upside Magazine's Top 25 Women on the Web, Evan Kemp's Entrepreneur of the Year, Ben & Jerry's "Citizen Cool", Wyndham Hotels, "Women on their Way", The Da Vinci Award for information technology. In 2002 Heidi's family accepted several awards on her behalf. Office Depot Visionary Award, the first Small Business Development Lifetime Acheivement award from the MDCD, called the Heidi VanArnem award, & Oakland University's prestigious Odyssey Award. Heidi's story also appears in a display at the Liberty Museum in Philidelphia that honors 200 outstanding Americans of the 20th Century. Heidi is recognized for her acheivments and advocacy of the disability community.
