About	Michael McNichols (Lafollette HS, Class of 1970) died of multiple myeloma November 19, 2011. Mike will be remembered among many things for his tireless service to the school athletic departments from 9th grade to 12th grade with Herbert Schenk Jr. High and LaFollette High School. He was an outstanding writer, especially for sports, and was a key contributor to the publishing of the LaFollette Statesman yearbook. He was a good friend to so many. We remember his kindness, always being inclusive of people on the “outside”. As we all know, life throws us curve balls. Some we hit, and some we totally miss. We find ourselves forgetting who we are, trying to compensate and sometimes traveling down a path for a time that we one day regret. Mike was no different, except that he chose to be brutally honest and write a book about his struggles in the hope it might benefit someone. That was classic Mike. His sisters can get you one I am sure, “Prison, Insanity, But Not Quite Death”. If you can find one I recommend it. His memorial service was held November 25, 2011 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Verona, WI. Attending, aside from his immediate family including sisters Julie McNichols and Connie (McNichols) Rystrom, were other friends who knew Mike because of the LaFollette connections. These included Paul and Kay Hoel, Bill and Virginia O'Brien, Janis (Owens) Barman, Joni (Owens) Russert, Mae Owens, F. Samuel Hunt, Beverly Hunt, my wife Christine Hunt and myself, Ken Hunt.
