About Me | The modern hero, the modern individual who dares to heed the call and seek the mansion of that presence with whom it is our whole destiny to be atoned, cannot, indeed must not, wait for his community to cast off its slough of pride, fear, rationalized avarice, and sanctified understanding. "Live," Nietzsche says, "as though the day were here." It is not society that is to guide and save the creative hero, but precisely the reverse. And so every one of us shares the supreme ordeal-carries the cross of the redeemer-not in the bright moments of his tribe's great victories, but in the silence of his personal despair. I have begun a long journey in the commitment of my life to represent and obtain justice for individuals, the poor, the injured, the forgotten, the defenseless and the damned. To that end I further will fight to protect the rights of such people from corporate and government oppression. In my relationships with persons I have found that it does not help, in the long run, to act as though I were something that I am not. It does not help to act calm and plesant when actually I am angry and critical. It does not help to act as though I know the answers when I do not. it does not help to act as though I were a loving person if actually, at the moment, I am hostile. It does not help for me to act as though I were full of assurance, when actually I am frightened and unsure. Even on a very simple level I have found that this statment seems to hold. It does not help for me to act as though I were well when I feel ill.. IF.. IF you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch, if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! The Star and Crescent Shall not be worn by every man, but only by him who is worthy to wear it. He must be a gentleman... a man of honor and courage... a man of zeal, yet humble... an intelligent man... a man of truth... one who tempers action with wisdom... and, above all else, one who walks in the light of God. Just for fun I wrote the following as I love to play on words and sayings: I MIGHT BE LETTING THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG BUT I ENJOY: Sweating the small stuff, Making a mountain out of a mole hill, Calling the kettle black. I hate having to Face the music and enjoy Running with the big dogs. I tend to let Let sleeping dogs lie and often find myself Crying over spilled milk. I take pride in being The straw that broke the camels back. I did this by Counting my chickens before they hatch and Putting my nose where it doesn't belong. Although I like Judging a book by its cover and looking a gift horse in the mouth there is nothing like Pushing the envelope. I hate Getting my panties in a bunch because I’m Biting off more than I can chew. This usually means that I will be Sticking my foot in my mouth, but why Take one for the team when you can Have your cake and eating it too? I'm not a huge fan of Saving it for a rainy day. I always Kill the messenger. Oftentimes, I find myself Making my bed and lying in it. I used to like Keeping my friends close and my enemies closer by Sleeping with the enemy but then I realized I don't have to and you can't make me, because if you Fool me once, shame on you, fool me...(read more) |
