What is Gordy Morgan known for?

Gordy Morgan, born August 12, 1966, in Bloomington, Minnesota, is a retired American wrestler known for his impressive career in the sport. A proud alumni of Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota, Gordy made his mark in the wrestling world from an early age.

Morgan competed in the 74kg weight class at the 1996 Olympics, where he achieved a remarkable ninth-place finish. Furthermore, he was a world team member in 1990, and from 1993 to 1995.

He earned the title of National Greco-Roman Champion three times, in 1991, 1993, and 1994. Moreover, his talents extended to the NCAA competition as well, where he emerged as the 1989 Big Ten champion in the 158-pound class and an NCAA All-American. Notably, he was also the Minnesota State High School champion in the 155-pound class in 1985.

As a testament to his contributions to the sport, the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association inducted Morgan into the Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame in 2004. In recognition of his commitment to the sport and the development of wrestlers, Morgan was named the USA Wrestling FILA Junior/University Person of the Year in 2006.
