Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Jun 12, 2017
About Richard P. Mooers, 76, died peacefully, with his devoted family by his side, on June 12, 2017 at his sister?s home in Arundel. Richard was born on May 12, 1941 the son of Everett R. and Doris E. (Bridges) Mooers. He attended grade school in Dayton and Lyman; graduating from Kennebunk High School with the Class of 1962. Richard began working with his Dad in the woods as a timber harvester. He soon went to work with the Baker Company in Sanford for several years before a serious back injury resulted in Richard being unable to work full time. He not only missed working each day, but the friendships made during his time with the company. Richard had a love of music; especially Blue Grass music and went to many of the summer festivals in the area. He also rooted for his beloved Red Sox and didn?t miss an opportunity to watch them play on television. Richard could quote stats of this player and that one; even on the opposing team! He felt just as strongly for the New England Patriots. Richard shared twenty plus years with his sweetheart and companion, Phyllis Day of Shapleigh. They traveled to Nashville, Tennessee many times and Richard became ?a kid again? on their trips to Disney World. They belonged to a local bowling league and didn?t miss a day without meeting their friends at McDonald?s. His heart was broken when Phyllis died in 2014. He found comfort and unconditional love living with his sister, Dianna and her husband John in Arundel. As a family, we want to say THANK YOU to his caregivers, Mary Daniels, Christina McCurken and Melonee Wallace; your kindness, patience and care for Richard will not be forgotten. Richard was especially fond of his grandniece, Sydney Burnham, who is three years of age ? each and every day she told him she loved him! How little ones just know who need the extra hug and smile! His family survivors include his sister, Dianna Mooers Kimball and husband John and his sister, Ilene E. Mooers Rumery all of Arundel; three nephews, four nieces, eleven grandnephews, eight grandnieces, one great grandniece, and three great grandnephews; many cousins and extended family members. Richard was predeceased by his mother, Doris and father Everett; and by two sisters, Joanne and Marlene Mooers.
