About	Opal Shuffleburg, 69, of Kennebunk, died Sunday morning, May 26, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Saco on December 17, 1943, the daughter of Obed and Evelyn (Swett) Shuffleburg. Opal grew up in Kennebunk, and was a graduate of Kennebunk High School class of 1961. She continued her education at Eastern Maine Medical School of Nursing in Bangor, graduating in 1964 as a registered nurse. Opal then began a 46 year career in Nursing, the last 41 years of which were at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. Over her 41 years at Goodall Hospital, Opal worked the Surgical Floor, Emergency Unit, Pediatrics, Relief Supervisor on the Medical Floor and was 3-11 night Supervisor for 25 years. Opal went far beyond that during her years at Goodall. Whenever a volunteer was needed, whether helping to make costumes for the children?s Christmas Play or selling tickets for the Activities Committee, Opal was always there to help out. Opal was a member of TOPS in Lyman, a member of the Red Hatters and for 20 years was a volunteer on the annual Camp Waban Telethon. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, but her passion was her family and friends; she never missed a gathering. When not found with family, Opal was off traveling with her many friends. Her travels included several cruises, site seeing across Europe, and many weekend adventures with Mr & Mrs John Cleary and Helen Antonelli. Opal was predeceased by her parents, Obed and Evelyn Shuffleburg. Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Kinney of Sanford; two nieces, Laurie Kinney of Sanford and Mary Kinney of Lebanon; her nephew, William Kinney of Sanford; a great nephew, Travis Kinney of Waterboro; a great-niece Courtenay Kinney of Kennebunkport; and a great-great nephew, Trever Kinney of Waterboro; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members from all her years at Goodall Hospital.
