About Shawna Lynne Hamp
An Earthly Angel
Shawna Hamp passed away in the loving arms of her mother and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at St. Marks Hospital, from complications of the disease, Scleroderma. She fought the disease with tremendous courage and positive determination for 17 years before her body could suffer no more.
Shawna was born on June 9, 1963 to Floyd W. and Ruby Oliver Hamp. She loved her parents and two brothers, Dan and Mike, with all her heart. She finally got her wish for sisters with her sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Colleen. She adored her nieces and nephews, Marie, Katie, Brenda, Mike, Dustin, Heather and Bobbie while playing the role as a second mother to them. She was an active and dedicated member of the L.D.S. Church in the Kearns 21st Ward. She went to school in Kearns and then put herself through college at the U. of U. where she earned three different degrees. She loved the idea of working in Medicine and entered that profession, while going to college, by working with medical records, Instacare, & the U. Of U. Spine Clinic where she became an Assistant Physical Therapist and Psychology Intern. When her illness became too painful for P.T. she went back to SLCC where she earned her license as an R.N. She worked at St. Marks Hospital until her disease became so serious she was forced to quit the nursing career she loved so dearly. She will be remembered by her co-workers as a most compassionate, caring and skilled nurse with a great sense of humor. She spent much of the following years at that hospital as a patient instead of a nurse, but with the same sense of humor and caring about others before herself. She thought her doctor, Dr. Aslami, was the greatest when she was a nurse and his patient.
She was preceded in death by her father Floyd, and her sister-in-law, Colleen.
She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, church members and hospital staff. She was everyone's angel.
Funeral services will be held at the Kearns 21st Ward Chapel, 4270 W. 5700 S., Kearns, UT. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, 1 p.m. Viewing Fri. Aug. 31st from 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Road, and one hour prior at the church, preceding services. Interment at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
