What is Will MacKenzie known for?

Will MacKenzie, born William Ruggles MacKenzie on September 28, 1974, is an American professional golfer and a notable alumnus of Junius H Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina, where he was born and raised. Before becoming a professional golfer, MacKenzie embarked on quite an adventurous journey. After a semester at Lees-McRae College, he worked for Taco Bell, lived out of a van in Big Sky, Montana for five winters, and even spent 30 days living in a snow cave in Valdez, Alaska without showering. He also worked as a rafting guide in Montana and West Virginia and traveled to Costa Rica for a three-month surfing trip.

MacKenzie's professional golfing career began after observing his boyhood idol, Payne Stewart, win the 1999 U.S. Open, reigniting his passion for the sport. He turned professional in 2000 and tasted early success on several mini-tours such as the Golden Bear Tour and the Hooters Tour. His rookie season on the PGA Tour was in 2005, and he secured his first win at the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2006. He notched another win at the Viking Classic in 2008.

After spending the entire 2013 season on the Web.com Tour and finishing 40th on the money list, MacKenzie regained his PGA Tour privileges. His performances in the 2014 PGA Tour were notably impressive, finishing second at the Valero Texas Open and fourth at the Valspar Championship. MacKenzie currently resides in Jupiter, Florida, enjoying a successful career that's marked by two PGA Tour wins.
