Michael Harrington, a notable alumnus of Junius H Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina, carved a prominent career as an American soccer player. Born on January 24, 1986, in Greenville, he embarked on a journey that saw him shine as a defender in numerous prestigious soccer teams.

Harrington kickstarted his youth career at the IMG Soccer Academy from 2001 to 2003. He later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, playing on the men's college soccer team from 2003 to 2006. During his collegiate off-seasons, he also played for the Raleigh CASL Elite of the Premier Development League.

His professional career burgeoned when he was selected in the first round, third overall, of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by Kansas City Wizards. After earning third place in voting for Rookie of the Year, Harrington accrued a total of 149 appearances for the team, netting five goals along the way. His subsequent trades saw him playing for Portland Timbers, Colorado Rapids, and Chicago Fire, racking up additional 100 appearances. He concluded his illustrious career in 2018 with 24 appearances for his hometown side, North Carolina FC.

Harrington also made his mark in international soccer as a member of the United States U-17 team, where he represented the country at the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland and the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands.
