What is Mike Royce known for?

Mike Royce, born in 1964 in Syracuse, New York, is an esteemed American screenwriter and television producer. He is known for his outstanding work in numerous television shows and sitcoms. Raised in Syracuse, Royce is a proud alumnus of Jamesville-Dewitt High School, where he graduated in 1982. Furthering his education, he went on to film school at Ithaca College where he graduated in 1986.

Royce's career began in 1988 as a stand-up comedian in New York City. His talent later led him to work as a warmup comedian for shows like 'The Maury Povich Show,' 'Viva Variety,' and 'Spin City.' In 1997, Royce got his first job as a writer on MTV's 'Apartment 2F.'

He joined the writing team of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' in 1999, where he climbed the ranks to become the executive producer for the last two seasons. Royce's work on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' brought him Emmy Award recognition. He was nominated for an Emmy in 2003 for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and won the Emmy for Best Comedy twice, in 2003 and 2005.

Apart from 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' Royce made significant contributions to other shows. In 2005, he became the executive producer and show runner of HBO's sitcom, 'Lucky Louie,' at the request of Louis C.K. He later teamed up with Ray Romano to write a series for TNT, 'Men of a Certain Age,' which premiered in 2009.

In 2017, Royce co-created a reimagining of the 1975 Norman Lear sitcom, 'One Day at a Time,' which premiered on Netflix. This show starred Justina Machado and Rita Moreno, with Royce serving as executive producer and co-showrunner. He also produced two shows for his Fox deal: '1600 Penn' and 'Enlisted.'

Royce's portfolio of work exhibits a testament to his talent in the industry. His contributions to television and comedy have provided countless hours of entertainment and have left a lasting impact on the genre.
