What is Eric Schultz known for?

Born in 1980, Eric Schultz is a proud Syracusan and a notable alumnus of Jamesville-DeWitt High School, DeWitt, NY. After graduating from high school in 1998, he pursued higher education at the Washington University in St. Louis where he studied Political Science and Writing.

Schultz started his journey in politics as an opposition researcher for Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign. He then managed communication efforts for John Kerry's campaign in New Hampshire, which resulted in Kerry's win in both the primary and general elections. Schultz didn't stop there. His journey in politics led him to work for a number of U.S. Senators, including Chuck Schumer (D-NY), in Capitol Hill.

In 2008, Schultz served as a national press secretary for John Edwards’ Presidential campaign before working as Deputy Campaign Manager for Al Franken during the 2008 United States Senate election in Minnesota. As Schultz brought “order and discipline” to Franken’s campaign, he became well-known among Washington reporters for his aggressive and effective approach.

Before joining the White House, Schultz served as communications director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in 2010, aiding to retain Senate control for Democrats. His dedication and strategic communication approach were recognized and he was appointed the Deputy White House Press Secretary in 2014 after Josh Earnest became the White House Press Secretary. In his role as Deputy Press Secretary, Schultz exhibited great skill in effectively communicating with both the public and private sectors. His ability to diffuse tensions with humor was as impactful as his relentless pursuit for his message.

After serving under the Obama administration, Schultz founded the Schultz Group in 2017, a strategic communications firm where he continues to advise former President Obama. Schultz has used his experience in politics to consult for several television and film projects, including "Designated Survivor" and the fourth season of "Succession".

Eric Schultz’s career and life journey can be an inspiration for many, showing how one can go from a high school student in DeWitt, NY to having an influential position in the White House. His exemplification of dedication, effective strategy, and impactful communication skills are truly remarkable.
